What is ATM?
- ATM - Asynchronous Transfer Mode: A transfer mode in which the information is organized into cells. It is asynchronous in the sense that the recurrence of cells containing information from an individual user is not necessarily periodic. (source: The ATM Forum Glossary - May 1997)
- Each cell is 53 bytes in length, with the first 5 bytes being the header information and the remaining 48 bytes being the payload (voice, video or data).
- ATM native speeds are 25Mbps, 155Mbps and 622Mbps
